Chaos at the border of criticality.
The present paper points out a novel scenario for the formation of chaotic attractors in a class of models of excitable cell membranes near an Andronov-Hopf bifurcation (AHB). The mechanism underlying chaotic dynamics admits a simple and visual description in terms of the families of one-dimensional first-return maps, which are constructed using the combination of asymptotic and numerical techn...
متن کاملStatic Pressure Distribution in an Excited Jet: Some Observations (RESEARCH NOTE)
A plane subsonic jet was subjected to periodic oscillations in the near nozzle region by a twin vane system. During excitation, the jet was found to spread significantly and entrain mass much more than its steady counterpart. Time averaged static pressure measured in the flow field with a disc probe exhibited prominent well defined suction regions different from that of a steady jet.
متن کاملThe Response of Two-Degree of Freedom Self-Sustained Systems with Quadratic Nonlinearities to a Parametric Excitation (RESEARCH NOTE)
In this study the interaction between self-excited and paramet rically excited oscillations in two-degree-of-freedom systems with quadratic nonlinearities is investigated. The fundamental parametric resonance of the first mode and 3:1 internal resonance is considered, followed by 1:2 internal and parametric resonances of the second mode. The method of multiple time scales is applied to derive f...
متن کاملDouble-mode Chaos with Hard Nonlinearities Coupled with an Inductor
We propose two chaotic circuits with hard nonlinearities coupled with an inductor and investigate some interesting phenomena in these systems. At first, we look into that several types of synchronization modes are stably excited. Next, we confirm that the synchronization modes are chaotically vibrated by observation of attractors and Poincare maps in the circuit systems. In particular, we aim t...
متن کاملSelf-excited oscillations in three-dimensional collapsible tubes: simulating their onset and large-amplitude oscillations
We employ numerical simulations to explore the development of flow-induced self-excited oscillations in three-dimensional collapsible tubes which are subject to boundary conditions (flow rate prescribed at the outflow boundary) that encourage the development of high-frequency oscillations via an instability mechanism originally proposed by Jensen & Heil (J. Fluid Mech., vol. 481, 2003, p. 235)....
